Spirit of the City

Friday, October 30, 2026

Dear Ch/Art Members,

We are happy to announce Ch/Art's group show at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation (RRUUC), "Spirit of the City"! Submissions will open on Nov 1 and run through Nov 21.  The show will run Feb 7 - Apr 11, 2027.

How to submit: Please look for the submission link in the November Newsletter, which will go out on Sunday, November 1.

Eligibility note: Ch/Art artists who registered in 2026 or those who registered as new 2027 members of Ch/Art before the show deadline (November 21) will be eligible to participate in this show.

Theme:

  • "Spirit of the City": This theme is intended to depict the DC area, whether as representational images of scenes in and around the city or as more abstract expressions of your sense of the vibe here.

  • As the gallery is in a faith community building, no pieces will be allowed that express incendiary political statements or depict explicit sexual content, violence, abuse, hate, or discriminatory views. RRUUC  retains the right to approve and deny any submissions at their discretion.

Selection Process: Works will be selected for the exhibition by our juror, Glen Kessler. The pieces chosen will be announced in mid-December. For selected works, there will be a fee of $35 per artist (regardless of the number of pieces submitted), due by the drop-off date (Feb 5, 2027).

2D works: Ch/Art members are eligible to submit two 2D pieces for consideration, with the understanding that space constraints will limit us to selecting one piece per artist in most cases. The wall space should accommodate approximately 30-40 art pieces, depending on size. There should be room for some larger works, but please submit at least one piece no larger than 24" wide.

3D works: The gallery also includes a locked cabinet where several 3D pieces - jewelry, ceramics, etc - may be exhibited. There is a height limit of 12" for 3D works. Given the smaller size of jewelry, you may submit up to three jewelry pieces.

Commission: RRUUC charges a 20% commission on sales.

Looking forward to the show!

Best,

Mark Leatherman
