Ruth Marcus
Ruth Marcus is a Washington, DC–based painter whose work is inspired by the beauty of the natural world and her extensive travels. Working in oil, acrylic, gouache, and watercolor, she creates expressive landscapes that capture the atmosphere, light, and character of places she has experienced firsthand. Many of her paintings are completed on location, while others are developed in the studio from sketches, studies, and photographic references. Recent travels to Italy, Switzerland, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Portugal, Norway, and France have provided inspiration for her evolving body of work.
Marcus enjoyed a distinguished career as an art educator in New York City, NY and Washington, DC, including long tenures at the Dalton School and Georgetown Day School. Now a full-time artist, she maintains a studio in Chevy Chase, DC, and has exhibited her work throughout New York, California, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
