Merrilee S. Harrigan
Merrilee Harrigan has been making glass art and jewelry in Washington, DC since the early 2000s. She studied fused glass at Vitrum Studio; Bullseye Glass; the Art Glass Center at Glen Echo, MD; and Helios Studio in Austin, TX. Her glass wall art uses two techniques: one incorporates silver into glass to make landscapes and abstract wall art; the other uses high temperature fusing to create layered garden scenes.
Harrigan's jewelry begins with the creation of a glass cabochon, incorporating gold foil, multi-layered dichroic or silver-infused glass. She then crafts a silver setting using bezels, textures, and patinas that take best advantage of the glass. She enjoys using innovative designs that incorporate the chain into the design of the piece.
She shows her jewelry and glass wall art at art festivals and exhibitions around the DC area including Bethesda Row and Tephra the Craft Made Baltimore. Her piece “We Are All Beautiful 2” was awarded first prize at the Workhouse 6th Glass International Exhibition in 2021.
