Eileen Sullivan

Eileen Sullivan was born and raised in the Washington, DC area, attended the University of Maryland and moved to New York City, NY after graduation. After six years, she returned to her hometown. She has always been creating art, from constant drawing and doodling to oil painting. She started painting with watercolor five years ago and has found her favorite medium.

Watercolor’s distinctive qualities are central to her artistic practice; the medium invites a balance between control and spontaneity, as pigment and water interact in ways that can be both intentional and unexpectedly beautiful. Its transparency allows light to pass through layers of color and reflect from the white paper beneath, creating a luminosity that appears to emerge from within the painting itself.

Eileen is a member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and the Baltimore Watercolor Societies. Her work can be seen online at eileensullivanart.com.
