Augustine Ripa

Augustine (Augie) Ripa is inspired by dramatic, abstract, and impressionist style photography evoking mood, action, atmosphere, and vibe. Beginning at a young age with film and darkroom techniques, he draws on those aesthetics in search of compositions conveying a sensation along with a subject.

Often starting with natural scenes or objects as a base canvas, he looks for a composition conveying some inherent drama and works with an analog sensibility to flesh out an emotional statement. The hope is to create a final image that either captures the feeling the scene conjures in person, which may transcend that which is visible in a literal sense. Or, to create an image with its own theme by applying an unconventional take on the base subject. In the end, he searches for a lived-in and human-centric artistic quality and hopes you see it, too.
