Claudia Minicozzi

Claudia Minicozzi received a classical art education in Drawing, Watercolor, and Oil.

Her introduction to acrylic painting began with Washington, DC painter and exhibit designer Val Lewton. For those 30 years of painting, she was lucky to have been taught by him how to see and how to paint. Her art owes much to Lewton, who humorously referred to her as his “School of One.”

Minicozzi's choice of subject: landscapes of places and experiences that she cherishes, was different from Lewton's, but she shared his love for the painterly approach, the freedom of brushwork, and the use of the dramatic effect between light and shadow to create a composition. She often paints watercolor and acrylic “plein air” paintings, and has done so since 1990. Most painting is done in her studio from photographs.
