Mauricio's work has evolved over the years with long gaps for travel in his work as environmental scientist. Life experiences gathered through his professional life, and keen observation of nature, inform his art. Following his retirement in 2015, Mauricio started a new career as an artist.

To develop his skills, he studied art at Montgomery College in Maryland. Then, with a solid base in studio art, Ihe attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico, receiving a masters’ degree (MFA) in visual arts in 2023.

For the last 10 years, Mauricio has been producing artwork in several media and exhibiting in various venues, including the Sarah Silberman Art Gallery, the Glenview Mansion, the World Bank’s atrium, and, lately, various Ch/Art exhibitions, such as Summer Magic, WOW, and ArtWalk. In March and April of 2026, Mauricio had a solo exhibition with 28 art pieces at the Unitarian Universalist Congregarion in River Road, MD.
