Deborah Coffey

Deborah Coffey is a contemporary artist based in Washington, DC. International experience has provided her with a diverse background in art, culture, and unique perspectives that inform her work. Her ideas are inspired from impressions in nature, the social and political environment, and a passion for experimenting with materials and tools. Painting and mixed media art is an ideal way to express complex ideas and emotions, allowing for a rich, layered experience in the artwork. Coffey plays with contradictions and combinations and delights in the sense of mystery, humor, and wonder that emerge. Her work tends to be thought-provoking and offers a unique spin on common themes. Something she likes to say is, "Things that don’t belong together often make the most sense." She has received numerous exhbition opportunities and is a recipient of the Pollock Krasner Grant for her assembled sculptures and mixed media painting.
