Beth Cartland
Beth Cartland is an abstract painter whose work embraces the expressive freedom of non-representational art. She believes that “to paint in an abstract style gives the artist a sense of freedom of expression,” yet she welcomes the challenge of communicating emotion using only line, color, paint, and texture. Her work invites viewers to look beyond the familiar and reconsider their perceptions, echoing the idea that “it’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see”, H.D. Thoreau.
Cartland has exhibited internationally, including in China, Venezuela, and through the US Department of State’s Arts in Embassies Program. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from The American University in Washington, DC, and pursued additional studies at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Corcoran College of Art and Design. She currently exhibits in galleries in Washington, DC, Rehoboth, DE and NYC.
