“Summer Magic”
A Ch/Art Curated Show at Chevy Chase Village Center
Ch/Art is holding a summer exhibit at the Chevy Chase Village Town Village Center at 5906 Connecticut Ave, just north of the Circle. The exhibition will be curated by Exhibition Committee Chair Mark Leatherman and Exhibit Coordinator Lance Patterson. Here is a quick summary of what you need to know.
o The theme of the show is Summer Magic.
o Only 2d work will be accepted because the rooms are used for meetings.
o Applications and images will be accepted beginning Tuesday, May 27th.
o The first sixty members who apply and submit up to two images for the show will be accepted.
One mage must be no more than 20 inches wide including the frame.
Art works – framed or unframed --must be ready to hang with a wire in the back and dropped off at the hall on June 27th between 10am-12pm.
There is no up-front application fee. There is a $25 fee for accepted artists, payable immediately.
There will be an opening reception on June 28 and a closing reception on July 27.
Sales are prohibited in the building. We will create individual QR codes for each work to connect the potential buyer to the artist. There is no commission fee.
Artwork must be picked up on July 28 between 10am-12pm.
The success of this exhibition depends on active volunteering.
Why is there a size limitation? While the venue has a is a lot of wall space, much of it is divided into smaller rooms. Also, the venue requires that paintings be hung on a hanging system, which also limits the available space. To ensure that the work of 60 artists can be displayed, the number of large works needs to be limited. The size requirement should ensure that we can accommodate the work of all 60 artists.
Active volunteering is critical to the success of this exhibition. All participating artists are expected to volunteer for at least two of the following: Receiving and hanging of the art on June 27; preparation, serving, and clean-up of the opening and closing receptions; active assistance in PR for the show; presenting an artist talk or demonstration at the hall during July; and take down/clean up after the show ends on July 27. There will be a volunteer sign-up posted in the portal.
