Judith Benderson

Judith Benderson has exhibited in DC including at the Katzen Arts Center in the American University Museum and the Katzen Rotunda, Artomatic, DC Arts Center, and has participated in public art projects including DC Party Animals and Color Field Remix. She was part of 2025 Women Artists of the DMV exhibition. She is Co-Curator of Friendship Heights Gallery. Her triptych “Ukrainica” is on permanent display at American University Law School. She was Cultural Property Law Enforcement Coordinator at the Justice Department for art theft and artifact smuggling, and did appraisals for the FBI Art Theft Program. Benderson has a JD from American University, a BA and an MFA from George Washington University, and is certified in fine and decorative arts appraisal. She organized the 2018 Washington Women’s Arts Center retrospective, Latitude, at the AU Museum. In the 1980s, Benderson was a board member and Managing Director of WWAC. In 1986, she was a board member and later Co-President of Rockville Arts Place, now VisArts.
