Current Events

What: All are invited to participate in Ch/Art’s May First Friday event, a “Paint Out” (which includes painting, sketching, collaging, etc.) on Connecticut Ave. NW. There will be a weekend-long display of the art at Happy Go Bikes. 

When: Friday, May 2, 2025, 3:00 pm -7:00 pm

Where: Meet and sign in at the greeting station in front of Happy Go Bikes, 5516 Connecticut Avenue, NW.  Then choose a spot to draw, paint, etc. anywhere on Connecticut Avenue between Livingston St. and Chevy Chase Circle.

Who: Everyone is welcome! You don’t have to be an “artist” to participate! Kids are encouraged to join in the fun.

How: Just bring your materials (sketchbook, paper or board to paint on, pencils, paints, oil pastels, collage materials, glue sticks, etc.), possibly a stool or chair if you plan to sit, or an easel of some kind if you prefer. There are some benches on the Avenue as well.  

Important Details: 

• There will be a display of the artworks at Happy Go Bikes, inside the store and in the windows, for the weekend. For that reason, please work small-ish. We will provide mats to create a “frame” for pieces on paper that are 5” x 7” or 8” x 10”. There are also small display easels that can hold works on board up to 11” x 14”.

• You can register ahead by clicking RSVP at https://www.chevychaseart.org/chart-events/chart-paint-out. By doing that you help us with our planning for our display. But don’t be afraid to join in at the last minute!

• Bring an index card with your name & contact info for the display; we will provide cards if you forget. (There won’t be sales at the event, but this way people can contact the artists if interested.)

• There is no rain date for the Paint Out. If there is inclement weather, the event is cancelled.
